UN Women has been working in Ukraine to enhance women’s leadership and participation, eliminate violence against women and girls, engaging women in all aspects of peace and security processes, and making gender equality central to national and local development planning and budgeting in Ukraine.

Gender equality is one of the sustainable development goals of UN that focuses to achieve the state of equal access to resources and opportunities of empowering regardless of gender. Eastern European country like #Albania where government is realizing the importance of empowering and supporting women by encouraging education and increasing access for women in workforce. It is said that Albania is close to achieving gender parity in education and health outcomes with high level of female representation at the top levels. According to #UN, Women’s empowerment has five components: women’s sense of self-worth; their right to have and to determine choices; their right to have access to opportunities and resources; their right to have the power to control their own lives, both within and outside the home; their ability to influence the direction of social change to create more just social and economic order, nationally and internationally.

Achieving true gender equality remains a major challenge in many parts of the world that includes Eastern Europe and Central Asia too
